KING COOL: CSF’s Ultimate Cooling Package for Jeep’s JL and JT Platforms

Jeep built its reputation on giving adventurers a vehicle that could go where no other platform could. Even through decades of growing competition, the Wrangler and Gladiator remain the leaders on the trail, and the sherpa to the mountain top. But this rugged reputation didn’t happen by chance. Rather, the focus on a dependable drivetrain and sturdy suspension earned the Wrangler’s status as the bona fide off-road king.

Nothing is perfect, however, and Jeep’s OEM components are manufactured with cost savings in mind, meaning compromises have to be made. From the factory, the JL Wrangler and JT Gladiator are equipped with radiators designed for daily duties. The plastic end tanks crimped onto an aluminum core are better suited for commutes rather than technical trails. Combined with the light-duty transmission cooler, and oversized tires, and it’s a recipe for high temps and a frustrating day on the trail.

Fortunately, the thermal management experts at CSF Cooling engineered the Heavy-Duty All-Aluminum Radiator and High-Performance Transmission Oil Cooler to keep these Jeeps at the top of their game.

THE DAILY GRIND

It’s a common misconception that high-performance cooling systems are strictly for hardcore rock bouncers or heavily modified overlanders. The truth is, even a completely stock JL or JT used primarily for daily driving can reap the benefits of an all-aluminum radiator.

It’s inevitable for any driver to get trapped in a stop-and-go gridlock during the sweltering summer heat, which is a strain on any vehicle’s cooling system. Repeated and prolonged heat cycling on the stock system only speeds up the degradation of the plastic end tanks, leading to leaks and a creeping temperature gauge even on vehicles that never see the trails.

CSF’s Heavy Duty All-Aluminum Radiator future-proofs the cooling system by taking this weak link entirely out of the equation. The plastic end tanks are replaced by aluminum units that are expertly TIG-welded to the improved radiator core. This upgraded heat radiator is also designed to be a full plug-and-play replacement, meaning no cutting, grinding, or fabrication to properly install.

LOW FLOW

Off-roading is rarely about speed; it’s about precision. Navigating the wilderness typically involves technical slickrock sections or crawling up a steep, rutted incline, literally at a snail’s pace. These Jeeps are moving at upwards of 2 mph at a high RPM with no airflow through the radiator or transmission cooler, the worst-case scenario for a vehicle’s cooling system.

Managing heat with the stock system relies heavily on the vehicle’s momentum to pull heat from the radiator’s fins, which isn’t present when plotting a course through technical trail obstacles. Rocking the Jeep or building torque to hurdle a boulder or climb out of a bowl will generate tons of heat that the OEM radiator just can’t keep up with.

CSF solves this low-airflow dilemma with a tag-team of increased volume and advanced fin technology. To start, the CSF Heavy-Duty All-Aluminum Radiator utilizes a massive 42mm, 2-row core ideal for improving heat dissipation. This new core is also equipped with a tightly packed 5mm tall fins paired with multi-louvered technology. These louvers are ideal for shedding heat from the system by forcing the air through the core at an angle, providing more time for heat transfer, and expanding the theoretical core thickness. Essentially, these fins allow the CSF radiator to transfer heat like it has an even thicker core.

OVERLANDING: GEAR-HEAVY AND OFF THE GRID

Overlanding is all about self-reliance. Going off the grid means having a vehicle that is capable of tackling the rugged landscape while toting all of the necessities for survival in the bush. Jeeps loaded down with a rooftop tent, recovery gear, dual batteries, heavy steel bumpers, winches, and water are a heavy payload for any vehicle. That added mass forces the engine and transmission to work overtime just to reach highway speeds, let alone traverse a mountain pass.

When you’re miles away from civilization, a blown radiator or slipping transmission is simply not an option. Since automatic transmission fluid, or ATF, cools the drivetrain as well as lubricates, CSF’s High-Performance Transmission Cooler is mandatory for serious overlanders. This updated unit boasts a 34% core volume increase while adding 68% fluid capacity to the transmission oiling system. Upgrading your rig before setting out trades the anxiety of dashboard warning chimes for absolute confidence on the trail.

TOWING: PUNCHING ABOVE THEIR WEIGHT CLASS

While being highly capable off-road, Jeeps leave something to be desired when towing. Their towing capacities are relatively modest, so hitching up a camper, boat, or utility trailer pushes the 8-speed automatic transmission to its absolute thermal limits. It is incredibly common to see transmission fluid temperatures dangerously soar over 250°F when pulling a load up a grade.

High temperatures vastly shorten the lifespan of ATF. This fluid lubricates the internal gearing best at its designated operating temperature, and pushing the limits of that specification thins the fluid and accelerates the breakdown of its important molecules, putting your Jeep’s driveline at risk.

CSF’s High-Performance Transmission Cooler swaps the factory’s single-pass design for a far more efficient dual-pass core. This forces the fluid to travel through the cooler twice through a high-pressure 16mm, 10-channel microtube architecture. The 19 rows of fins on the top of CSF’s transmission cooler ensure the ATF temperature is properly regulated while pulling a payload.

TOUGH TECH

The heavy-duty off-road cooling segment has long been waiting for a leader, and CSF is stepping in to completely dominate the space.

The CSF Heavy-Duty All-Aluminum Radiator vastly increases the core volume, with a 50% bump over the stock unit. Paired with CSF’s exclusive B-Tube technology, which increases transfer efficiency by upwards of 20% over standard oval tubes. The internal seam on these tubes also provides increased structural integrity to better handle chassis flex, mitigating the risk of leaks on intense trail rides. To fully ensure bombproof construction, 100% TIG-welded aluminum end tanks completely replace the failure-prone OEM plastic tanks. Despite these heavy-duty upgrades, you still get a true drop-in fit. The CNC-machined mounting brackets ensure a seamless, 2-to-3-hour plug-and-play install without any cutting or drilling.

With engine cooling sorted, the CSF High-Performance Transmission Oil Cooler delivers unmatched capacity with a 34% larger core volume and 68% more fluid volume than the OEM cooler. This achieves rapid thermal drop through dual-pass efficiency, effectively doubling the number of cooling tubes and fin rows compared to the factory unit for maximum heat extraction. Finally, this cooler maintains OEM+ aesthetics, featuring a stealthy black finish that looks fantastic while hiding discreetly behind that iconic seven-slot grille.

STAY COOL, STAY CAPABLE

The Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator did not earn their status as off-road kings by sitting in stop-and-go traffic or sticking to pristine asphalt. They earned it by acting as the ultimate sherpa to the mountaintop, carrying adventurers to places where lesser platforms simply cannot survive.

Even with this lengthy history in off-road exploration, CSF still found ways to further solidify this platform. This tag-team cooling package keeps the JK Wrangler and JT Gladiator cool under pressure on the trail. The added capacity and increased durability from the High-Performance Transmission Cooler and Heavy-Duty All-Aluminum Radiator provide the heat dissipation and peace of mind for life beyond the pavement. Whether tackling technical trails, hauling gear into the backcountry, or simply preparing for the next adventure, CSF helps ensure your Jeep is ready for whatever lies beyond the next bend.
