Extend the Season, Extend the Ride: FirstGear Heated Gear

ROLLING COLD

For most, motorcycling isn’t just a means of transportation; it’s a lifestyle. From spring to fall, many of us two-wheeled enthusiasts find therapy in the twist of the throttle, turning even the most mundane commutes into thrilling joyrides. While some are fortunate enough to live with “riding season” weather all year round, for those of us in the Northeast, including Turn 14 staffers, the numbing bite of Old Man Winter turns that daily euphoria into a torture test, and in the war between rider and wind chill, it’s the weather that usually comes out on top.

But what if there was a new strategy in this struggle? What if riders could stash a pocket of summer in their jackets and extend the riding season across winter’s worst?

That’s where FirstGear’s line of heated apparel comes in.

Whether it’s just making it through a cold morning commute, braving the full brunt of winter’s wrath on a V-twin, or keeping warm by adding another layer of warmth through snowy trails on the snowmobile or ATV, these heated layers are designed to keep us rolling.

LAYERED FOR THE LONG HAUL

FirstGear developed a full range of heated garments that give riders the flexibility to outfit themselves for any level of cold. We all know the best way to beat the cold is to dress in layers, and that’s precisely how FirstGear designed its lineup to function. With the exception of the I-Touch gloves, every garment is meant to be layered into an existing riding kit or snowsport setup.

On Top

Starting at the base, FirstGear’s Heated Layer Shirts provide a foundation for retaining body heat. Utilizing a polyester and spandex blend, these shirts serve as true base layers, form-fitting to the rider’s body for effective heat transfer through seven warming panels. The lightweight construction makes them especially appealing under tighter outerwear or perfect for street jackets, ADV gear, or even insulated snowmobile shells.

For those seeking more flexibility in upper body warmth, FirstGear also offers the Heated Jacket Liner. Designed to double as a stylish destination piece, it works as a mid-layer beneath outer shells, and integrates cleanly into FirstGear’s Rogue XC, Kilimanjaro 2.0, and Kathmandu 2.0 jackets. With a stretch-fit polyester outer and plush nylon liner, the jacket liner adds both insulation and active warmth, and thanks to its casual styling, it’s just as at home at a trail stop or gas station as it is in the saddle. However, we feel that it’s important to note that this liner does not include any protective materials, so it’s always best to ride with an armored outer layer.

From the Bottom

The lower half of the system is anchored by the Heated Pants Liner, completing the cold-weather base layer approach. Built from the same polyester/spandex blend, they’re low-profile, form-fitting, and designed to layer under everything from armored textile pants to insulated snow pants. Heat zones are placed over key muscle groups and joints to maintain flexibility without sacrificing warmth. Like the shirts, once they’re on, you’ll forget they’re there—until you realize you’re not freezing.

Frosted Tips

It’s no surprise that the fingers and toes go first. Whether you’re battling icy winds on the freeway or winding a snowmobile through the tree line, extremities take the worst of it.

The I-Touch Heated Gloves are FirstGear’s heavy hitters. These are built for the tundra with 3M Thinsulate insulation, waterproof Agrotex liners, armored knuckles, and strategically placed heat zones for that extra touch of warmth. Touchscreen fingertips are included, though performance may vary depending on glove fit and device sensitivity.

For those looking to enhance an existing glove or boot setup, FirstGear also offers heated glove liners and heated socks, ideal for snowmobile boots, MX kits, or any ride where traditional insulation just isn’t enough.

TEAM WORK, HEAT WORK

Keeping warm during cold-weather riding is a team effort, and every piece in FirstGear’s system plays its part. At the center is the Heat-Troller: the brain, the power source, and the rider’s personal thermostat.

Offered in single- or dual-zone configurations, the Heat-Troller gives riders full command over different heat zones. For example, jackets and gloves can run on one circuit, while pants and socks stay tuned to another. Each kit includes a battery harness and a glove-friendly rotary dial with 300° of tactile analog control. No screens, no menus, no apps, just a glove-on twist to get the warmth you need.

Power flows from the harness through a smartly integrated network of coaxial cables that connect the entire system. The jacket liner serves as the central hub, offering plug-in points for pants, gloves, and socks and are all routed back to a single bike-side connection. Riders with SAE battery tenders aren’t left out as FirstGear offers adaptors to simplify install on snowmobiles, ATVs, and dual-sport rigs alike.

And that’s what makes this gear truly versatile. It isn’t just built for street riders, it’s made for any machine with a 12V battery. Whether tackling snow drifts on a sled, exploring trails in a UTV, or cruising cold backroads, FirstGear’s heated gear system delivers season-spanning warmth across powersports platforms.

SELF WINTERIZED

When that first chill hits the air, most riders think about prepping their bike for winter storage. But with FirstGear’s heated apparel, there’s another option: winterize yourself instead.

Add targeted warmth. Layer intelligently. Ride longer. Whether you’re squeezing out the last few miles of the street season or gearing up for months of trail rides on snow and ice, FirstGear gives riders a reason to keep going.

Because when the temperatures drop, the ride doesn’t have to end. Not on two wheels. Not on four. Not even in the snow. Find just the right FirstGear product at www.turn14.com
