The secret to the Smart Air Vest is Dainese’s D-air® airbag system, a wearable airbag designed to protect the rider from impact, inflating within milliseconds of crash detection. Unlike old-school armor, which waits passively for impact, the Smart Air Vest is an active safety system. To achieve this, Dainese powers the Smart Air Vest with its proprietary algorithm and is backed up by a squadron of onboard gyroscopes, accelerometers, and GPS sensors that are monitored up to 1,000 times a second to keep a constant watchful eye on the rider. Its long-lasting battery life keeps this ever-watchful eye on the rider, ready to jump in and provide that life-saving barrier at any moment without needing a tether. 

The game changer of the Dainese Smart Air Vest is the airbag itself. Aptly named the Road Shield, it provides protection equivalent to seven CE-level back protector inserts once deployed. That’s not a typo. This protection doesn’t discriminate either, as Dainese took measures to ensure an even spread of the helium and argon gas mixture. Typically, air rushing into any container will spread unevenly and cause deformation, which could leave some areas unprotected at the worst possible time.

To solve this issue, Dainese’s Road Shield incorporates a patented microfilament design that links the two walls of the airbag together, regulating expansion. The result?
