  • MBRP is a trusted performance exhaust manufacturer for automotive, truck, and powersports communities.
  • Its Armor Pro lineup is MBRP’s most durable, leveraging T304 stainless steel, advanced complementary materials, and years of experience to create robust, great-sounding exhaust systems.
  • For the 2021-2024 GMC Yukon lineup, MBRP’s 3” Tour Profile Armor Pro Exhaust provides a surefire way to add performance, style, and much-needed sound.

Stock isn’t enough. We can almost universally agree with this sentiment as enthusiasts in the aftermarket space. To that end, MBRP’s foundational commitment—to manufacture products for enthusiasts by enthusiasts—isn’t a unique one. But don’t let that taint any perception you have of the company; more than many, MBRP has been steadfast to that mission and has created well-engineered, beautifully made, and (crucially) fairly priced exhaust systems for the automotive, truck, and powersports communities.

That formula starts with using the right materials. MBRP’s Armor Pro lineup—the lineup we’re going to delve into much deeper in this article—is constructed using T304 stainless steel and, oftentimes, advanced materials like carbon fiber. The result is an extremely robust and rust-proof product that looks as good as it sounds. MBRP stands behind that so much that they attach lifetime warranties to the Armor Pro systems, even for people who are trudging their vehicles through snow and salt. We thought it best to put MBRP’s claims to the test at John C Garage, a Duramax/truck specialist shop based out of Telford, PA.

BIG SHOES

The name “Yukon” comes from the Gwich’in word “Yu-kun-ah” which means “great river”. In a modern context, automotive enthusiasts associate the name with a big SUV that is manufactured by GMC. Nevertheless, that name means there’s a lot to live up to. Despite the 5.3-liter V8 at the front, the unsightly factory exhaust makes the big, American SUV sound relatively demure, and very mindful. MBRP quickly identified this as an opportunity to uncork a bigger personality; its Tour Profile Armor Pro exhaust (S5061304) is a bolt-on affair that gives the 2021-2024 GMC Yukon the bark it needed from the factory.

Of course, volume isn’t everything—there’s real engineering that goes into extracting the right sound from an exhaust—and there’s no point in owning a family SUV if every conversation was drowned out by 110dB blast pipes. That’s where MBRP’s Tour Profile comes in. This gives your vehicle a unique performance exhaust soundtrack without the aggressive (and altogether unnecessary) volume. As MBRP says, “Your Yukon should have sounded this good from the factory.”

ARMOR PRO

By immediate contrast, the MBRP Tour Profile Armor Pro cat-back exhaust is crafted from T304 stainless steel (as aforementioned), and the four-inch, double-walled, angle-cut tip is a massive improvement from the stock down-turned piece. Appropriately, the stamped MBRP tip replacement is visible from the rear of the truck. The single-side exit looked fantastic and made us eager to hear what the Yukon sounded like once everything was buttoned up.

PRO TIPS

Speaking of tips, you won’t need too many to put this exhaust on. The only thing that we did was swivel the rear sway bar for clearance to remove the OEM exhaust. Other than that, installing the MBRP Tour Profile Armor Pro exhaust was straightforward because this plug-and-play exhaust was engineered with superb fit and finish in mind. Just make sure that you slide the clamps onto the connecting pipes before you connect them to the muffler. Easy.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The difference between the Yukon’s factory exit note and MBRP’s was immediately perceivable. For regular driving, the exhaust is unquestionably more refined—a deeper, throatier tone—without dulling the senses or any in-cabin conversation. Mash the loud pedal and the  Heimholtz designed resonator does an amazing job of shifting the exhaust’s personality. Here, it delivers a muscular, guttural punch as the RPMs climb. That ascent certainly seems quicker from the butt dyno, but MBRP does claim that its Tour Profile Armor Pro exhaust does tout a 45% increase in flow.

Again, the sound is only one part of the equation; the difference between the OEM exhaust and this unit is massive in every other measurable detail: weight reduction, stainless steel construction, MBRP build quality, plug-and-play installation, and wallet-friendly price. Without question, this exhaust upgrade is a no-brainer for any 2021-2024 GMC Yukon owner.
